The Shoe Projects

  1. Glaze pinch pots, coil pots, and maybe some slab pots
  2. Begin a week-long (or 1 1/2 wk long) sculpture of a shoe or boot, using the "composite method," a combination of slab, coil/applique, and pinch methods. Try to make your shoe as realistic as possible and as detailed as possible. You do NOT have to be able to wear it. You will definitely need to keep it covered with a plastic bag to prevent it from drying out too fast. The first few days to keep it plastic enough to build, bend, and mold. The next few to keep it leather (or cheese) hard; at that point you may want to work in some burnishing, wiping with a sponge, applique and using carving tools to perfect and decorate your shoe-sculpture.
